Advances in synthetic chemistry and polymer science enable the precise installation of transition metals into macromolecular scaffolds. Polymerization of metal-containing monomers as well as post-synthesis metalation of polymers are state-of-the-art synthesis routes to the macromolecules incorporating transition metals. These synthetic routes are facile, ensuring the functionalities of these metals, ultimately yielding functional macromolecules. In this chapter, we discuss the various synthetic approaches explored to access transition-containing macromolecules.
