Transition-metal-containing macromolecules are emerging precursors for the design of biomaterials. Indeed, compelling empirical results prove these macromolecules as biosensors, bioimaging probes, therapeutic agents, and smart drug delivery platforms, thanks to their photoactivity, redox-activity, magnetic properties, and coordination chemistry. In this chapter, we review strategies employed by researchers to exploit the metal-related functionalities of transition-metal-containing macromolecules in biomedical applications.
