Kicking off with dubious commercial attempts in the 19th and early 20th century to extract gold from sea water, this chapter moves on to cyanide via the deadly chemical's usage in gold extraction from ore, detailing its more deadly uses (hydrogen cyanide as used by the Nazis) and its more beautiful ones (the pigment known as Prussian Blue). A brief segue takes us through the gold test for cocaine, before returning to the deadly, this time in the form of Anthrax – the iron thief.
