Although there has been a long period during which interest in synthesis planning by computer diminished, some work has always continued and there has been a strong revival of interest over the last two or three years. As well as work on retrosynthetic analysis to support the synthesis of novel compounds, there is work on topics such as reducing hazardous impurities in pharmaceutical products and assessing the synthetic accessibility of compounds.
