The eighth chapter of the book deals with enantioselective cobalt-catalysed 1,2-nucleophilic additions to carbonyl compounds and derivatives, other than (nitro)-aldol reactions. These reactions have been promoted using various biphosphine cobalt catalysts and Werner complexes. Among the most efficient reactions, are additions of diisopropylzinc to pyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde, phenylboronic acids to substituted aldehydes, vinyl boronic acids to a range of activated carbonyl compounds and derivatives, and malonates or nitroalkanes to α-amido sulfones.
