In a way, every teacher is a performer, standing up in front of an audience and engaging them in the subject to hand. This chapter builds on the theme of storytelling and focuses on creative approaches to performance and drama based pedagogies within chemistry teaching. This includes the elements of performance for the teacher as well as the pedagogical potential of performance and drama based activities to engage students and develop chemical understandings. Using Michael Faraday as our inspiration, we highlight the important components of performance to promote curiosity and interest in chemistry. The use of plays to engage with the human element of chemistry is discussed as well as drama games and designing effective debates.
