The first chapter gave the background to the languages used in the Bible. This chapter goes into more detail about the problems involved in finding the correct translation for perfume ingredients mentioned in the Bible, particularly in the Hebrew Bible; that is, the Old Testament. In some cases, the meaning of Hebrew and Greek words is clear and we can be confident that we know what substances were used. However, in many cases, it is far from certain what the original writer intended.
