Chemistry and physics are both characterized by equations that mediate the transition from one relationship between energy and mass to another, set off by an equals sign. Biology differs, since its most fundamental expression as cellular homeostasis is always a dynamical relationship, which does not permit equation-like equality. The key to understanding inorganic change is as the product of the Singularity. Organic evolution is also a vector of that event directed toward the continuous endogenization of factors in the ever-changing environment that pose existential threats, which instead are compartmentalized to form our physiology. As a result, life must comply with the same natural laws as does the cosmos, providing a rationale for the mind being the organic expression of our physiology.
