This chapter uses thermochemistry to calculate the power and temperature of an explosion for single and mixed explosive compositions, and compositions which have been energized with aluminium together with examples. The K–W and Springall Roberts rules are used for the predicting the products of detonation. The relationship between the force and pressure of an explosion is discussed together with its dependence on the heat of explosion.
